One of the greatest movie ever made....

....but never got the attention and praise it deserved. I'm a movie buff and this movie has always stuck with me from the first time I saw it. It deserved some serious praise and awards, it was well wriiten, well directed, and definately well performed!

i agree! I watch this movie again every 3 or 4 years. And I always catch something I missed. I think this movie failed to get the attention it deserved because it wasn't a conventional Hollywood film. It's a dark brilliant film with many layers. But some people were turned off (Spoilers)... by a dead dog, racism, a child dressed as a Nazi, a mom ODing on pills and a child being kidnapped. I think it's great and it does have a happy ending!

I agree completely. This is definitely in my top 5 favorite movie list

In Nomine Patris et Filis, et Spiritus Sancti

DeVito is terrific, and it's two-thirds of a great movie. But the ending to Strick's storyline is preposterous.

reply

It's one third of a good movie.....doesn't seem like it was fully realized or thought out....not to mention the kid who played Jack gave a very average performance....I give it a 5.

reply

The kid who played Jack gave a very average performance? What? Kid could cry on the spot. He was very expressive. He was no Haley Joel Osment, but he could out act of a lot of the big child actors of the 90s (Macauley Culkin, Johnathan Brandis, Jake Lloyd, etc). I'd give his performance a solid 8 and the movie an 8.8.

reply

Meh, very average.
