I disagree. I love how Guiseppe was portrayed in the film. In fact, the reason he was portrayed the way that he was, was because Jim Sheridan wanted to break the stereotype of the Irish father is constantly drunk, rather than concerned for his own family's welfare.
All too often, Catholics --& for that matter most Christians--are portrayed in a negative light, on both the big & the small screens, & Guiseppe was shown in a way that Christians are really supposed to behave!!
