Gabriel Byrnes comment....

Gabriel was initially going to play the small role played by Don Baker. However, he withdrew from the film in response to the number of fictional changes made to the original true story.

When he saw the title had also been changed, he suggested it should be called "In The Name Of Jaysus" - a popular Dublin expression of exasperation

The title they chose suited,Gerry Conlon always wanted to clear his father's name, hence the title, and the word "jaysus" is used not only for exasperation but also for comedic effect when telling stories "jaysus wait til I tell ye what happened"etc.I think that might have been slightly inappropriate for the subject matter.IMO

I wasnt a serious suggestion.

Gabriel Bryne was unhappy with the amount of fiction that was in the script - and that many smaller truths were grossly distorted - father and son never shared a jail let alone the jail cell for example and much of the detail in the final courtroom scenes was completely artificial.

His comment was purely sarcastic one.

"To love another person is to see the face of God"
