Purple Light Saber

When sadamm and the pres. are light saber dueling, sadamm whips out a purple lightsaber right? isn't this movie years before sam jackson and the new star wars movies and his lightsaber that was purple? does anybody else find this weird?

reply

no not really, it's just a color. It's not like Mace Windu has some special claim to the color purple.

hmm.. if I remember correctly, the colour purple on lightsabres is for the strongest and best sabre fighters, and only Windu is good enough to have it. But if this rule was written before this movie, I don't know

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!

Samuel L Jackson said his favorite color was purple in an interview I read. Im pretty sure his lightsaber in Starwars is that color simply because he asked Lucas he wanted it that color.

reply

That's exactly right about Windu's saber. The Darth Saddam lightsaber is purple for the same reason that the energizer bunny is blue. It's the same as the object being parodied, only slightly altered to avoid any possible copyright entanglements.

There is some long winded explanation in SW KOTOR II but its boring

reply

Thats the EU, or Extended Universe and is not always correct. I think the explanation as to the colour of Mace Windus Lightsaber is that George Lucas suprised S L J with it. Samuel had asked for a different colour. George said No, as Lightsabers ONLY came in Red, Blue or Green. He then went back on his word to bring in the purple saber. Plo Koon is also thought to have a yellow saber, but it is never seen.

Also, the colour the lightsaber for each Jedi does not represent their skill with a saber or even there alignment with the force. It is personal choice. A Jedi could have a red saber if he wished. Hence with Anakin in Episode 3, who chooses to keep his blue saber untill he lost it.

One more thing, Mace uses what is known as the Vapaad style. Style 7, Mace utilises the Dark Side of the force to dispatch his enemies quickly and mercilessly. He can switch alignment as he sees fit. Many Jedi cannot use this style as it can cause a Jedi to switch alignment. Some may argue (including myself) that Luke successfully uses Vapaad during his fight with Vader in episode 6. He was clearly attacking with anger and hatred but was able to come around and return to the light after he had defeated him. Again this does not determine the colour of the saber he should use.

Sam Jackson was in multiple interviews stating his favorite color was purple, and he asked George Lucas if he could have one so it was done for him.
