Scene with family leaving puppy in a box?

I need to know, does this movie have a scene towards the beginning where a family is shown giving a puppy to their little boy? The little boy doesn't want the puppy, and the parents decide to leave the puppy on the side of the road in a box. I think the puppy later turns out to be Shadow ?

That scene is from Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco. It's a flashback to the puppyhood of Riley, leader of the stray dog gang that the pets meet. He was a Christmas present, but the kid didn't appreciate him, so they just dumped him on the side of the road inside a cardboard box, in the rain. ;_; Can't blame him for turning against humans after that...
