Is there a book about this movie? I would like to read it. I assume it is a true story.

I am not sure if this was basded on a true story or not but their are some similarities in the life of the films writer and the film. For instance the Edward Furlong charter his name is Shane Patrick Lacy in the film, the writer of the films name is Patrick Sheane Duncan. I tried to find out some info on Mr Duncan and found that he grew up in LA and when his father passed away his family moved to Michigan. It never mentions any brothers or sisters but his age fits the time line of "Home of Our Own" Mr Duncan was born in 1948 the same year Shane Lacy would have born if he was 14 in 1962 like he says in the begining of the film.
