5 out of 10? Seriously
That score can lead anyone to believe this movie is bad.
shareThat's one of the problems with objective over all ratings. You have no room for context. For example if I were to place Hexed in the company of similar films of the era, which was big at the time. Things like Wrongfully Accused, Fatal Instinct, etc. I would say Hexed easily outclasses them. It's not as much a parody as a twisted dark comedy. There are some elements of course that are broad but there's nothing specific when I watch it and think.. "oh this is their Basic Instinct" parody.
So really I find the way ratings are done so subjective it really hurts smaller films that either few people who've seen (and may artificially inflate the ratings) or people that just happen to catch on cable and decide to just blast at it. I remember seeing the ads on tv when it was originally released, although am disappointed to see that director Spenser was not happy with the final result. But I thought it fit perfectly with the kind of show he crafted after Sledge Hammer, although I felt it was at times more directly a parody than this film.
