the universal remote

id like to know about the scene when john changes max's tv's channel as hes looking at the lottery numbers. At one point the channel changes to this goofy big guy dancing to some pretty wacky music. does anyone know anything about what the hell it was cause it really gave me a laugh. i know this is pretty obscure but i thought id give it a shot. thanks

reply

The big guy dancing is actually a television commercial for Little Caesar's pizza. It aired quite a while ago, at least 10 years ago. It was very funny though. Hope this helped.

Could a universal remote actually work like that? Wouldnt the TVs need to be the same? And would the remote's signal be strong enough to be able to change the channels? Also, is there any website where you can download old commercials? I really wanna see that commercial with the fat guy.

reply

Never mind the remote though, how can Jack Lemmon's character, if he's watching the Lottery draw live, be seeing noise bars and interference on the picture of the type normally associated with a bad piece of video tape?

Check that part out, its very obvious.

who cares if it can work or not in real life. its a movie. it was funny in the movie. thats all that matters.

reply

exactly. besides why do you think its called a "universal" remote. Because it works on a vast majority of tvs. "Universally". This movie is one of my Top Ten Favorites. Enjoy it!

O, no reason. ;)

Are you joking, or are you simply too young to know about television broadcasts received over the air with an antenna? It wasn't always plasma screens and high-def. Snow, static, lines, bars, signal fades, all used to be very common. If an airplane went by overhead, the picture would often drift into snow and the sound get buried in static. It had nothing to do with video tape; it was the nature of broadcast television (i.e. VHF and UHF radio signals).

reply

I didn't think he had a universal -- It looked like he had a few remotes. I mean, Max WAS a TV Repairman -- He said so to Ariel. If anyone could change anyone's channels, it would be Goldman.

reply

During the scene where John and Max are switching channels there are several Little Caesar's commercials playing. It is not just one commercial. Every time Max switches the channel it's a different commercial.
