How is this movie not on TV/cable at this time of the year ?

Just asking folks.

There was a time I remember this movie was shown on TBS or TNT or both over the entire July 4th holiday time (?) At times, even the "extended version" was shown during the July 4th holiday...

Not sure why this movie is rarely seen on TV/cable nowadays ? That includes TCM neglect of this film.

Have to agree with you. It's a great movie for the 4th of July timeframe (this and the movie 1776).

If I don't see it scheduled in the next day or so I'll just have to fire up the DVD player.

I don't know either. I was especially surprised in 2013 when it was not shown during the 150th anniversary.

It's also a time to show their original programming. Neither TNT or TBS is the same network anymore.

I completely agree it's a disgrace. Since Turner handed over most operational control, all of the "Turner" networks are completely different than they were even a decade ago. I watch this movie every year (even when I was deployed) on each day (June 30th on June 30, July 1st on July 1, etc.) and it really is quite fun. It also helps break up the length, which (even though this is one of my top 5 favorite movies) can get a little too much some of the time I watch it during the year.

The film is viewed as far too sympathetic to the confederate cause. In the current climate of liberal cuckolded *beep* that dominates or media this movie will never be shown again.
