TLJ was great and all but did NOT deserve to win the Oscar

I mean, Tommy Lee Jones was great and all but did NOT deserve to win the Oscar.
For an action thriller his performance was certainly far above average.

But the fact that he won over Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List, still absolutely infuriates me to this day. Fiennes gave one of the greatest performances ever given as Amon Goeth in Schindler's List, and he lost the the 'above average' Tommy Lee Jones in this action thriller?...

I cant seriously be the only person to feel this way about his oscar win?

It's called retribution for his life long work in film.

Also he lost the award 2 years earlier in JFK when he should have won.

It happens all the time.

But he DID do a fantastic job in The Fugitive..
Understated, complex, authentic.
The gradual transition from the stoic "I don't care!" to the casual but more curious "Did you know Devlin and McGregor made 4.5 billion dollars last year alone?".
You sense his inner transformation and delicate ponderings/conflicts about the whole case

I'm sorry but I don't agree. I like him in this movie but he wasn't Oscar worthy imo. His performance in this is really entertaining but just isn't as good as the other performances that year like DiCaprio, Fiennes, and Malkovich. I don't see his performance in this being any different from his role in Men in Black a few years later. It's just a typical Action guy role to me. Then again I feel like the other guy said that she should have won for JFK. It's ridiculous he lost for that to Jack Palance in City Slickers. I feel the same way about Sean Connery winning his Oscar for the Untouchables over Denzel Washington's amazing performance as Steve Biko in Cry Freedom.

Oscar winning acting is not always BIG EMOTIONAL EPIC TOUCHING, nor should it be.
In my opinion.. and hopefully the academy agrees.

In other words it's okay to give someone an Award for something they weren't really that good in just because you didn't give said award to said person previously for something they were really good in.

We must agree to disagree

I find TLJ's performance in The Fugitive amazing.
Many others see the same.

I think you and OP are a bit too focused on the style of the movie, not the performance itself.
"oh, an action thriller? pff"

Out of the nominees, i wouldve given TLJ the Oscar last. Everyone in the catagory was better IMO. TLJ's performance was good and servicable to the movie, but nothing more.

DiCaprio gave one of the best teen performances ever
Fiennes gave one of the best performances ever
Malkovich gave probably his best performance in Line of Fire. He stood his ground against Clint beautifully
Pete Postelwaith in In the Name of the Father is simply outstanding and heartbreaking.

Out of the 5, i wouldve given TLJ the oscar last. IMO they were all better.
