He sort of defined good looks for the eighties, as Pitt for the nineties or Newman for the sixties - I think he looks good in a weathered, mature sort of way now. I have also always thought he was a really good actor, in fact I'm amazed at some of the gripping performances an actor so young was able to deliver in his early films. He had the old Hollywood gift of being able to really center and drive a story, ie convince the viewer the issues involved were extremely important and make us pay attention. I think he is greatly talented, and I admit to him being one of my favourite actors for years. (Even though I have never actually watched all of Top Gun; the macho bantering turns me off every time. I was in the military at one time, that could be why.)
But I quite like the Firm, despite its far fetched premise, and a number of other ones like Minority Report and Collateral. I even saw Cocktail in the theater when it first came out.
