so, after 20 years is th world a better or worst place to live?

film made in 1993, i think the rest of the 90's were prety good but after 2001 life has become again as this film.

Well, the violent crime rate in the USA started dropping in 1992 or so, and has been trending down ever since. There were a couple of bumps in the mid 2000s, but nothing as bad as it was in the 80s and early 90s.

Statistically, as far as violent crimes go, we are still better off than we were in 1992 when this film was being made.

I would say Los Angeles is worse now versus 1993. D-FENS hadn't even experienced the recession yet.

Riots(Watts & Rodney King), gas shortages(nation wide), and smog so bad it literally hurts to breathe, just to name a few things.

It is better now, not then.

Los Angeles has certainly become better. Google map the filming locations and you'll see they've been gentrified.

Everyone here keeps bringing up Watts. The Watts riots occurred in the 1960's and weren't at all related to the Rodney King riots. Jesus, use the Google if you have to, but every time I see a clown write Watts/Rodney King it makes me wonder I'd you've read history at all. Let alone have any idea what you're talking about.

I felt the thrust of the movie was the pent up anger in all of us, and the difficulty living on top of one another in a major metropolis. Better now or then is insignificant, the symptoms will always be there.

Smart phone users and hipsters would annoy D-fens.

I often think I'd like to rewind back to 1994 and just stay there. But that's probably nostalgia talking.

Better.
