I think its not just that people are influenced by media but that they want to find *anything* that they can rag on celebrities about so they feel like their lives aren't completely worthless in comparison :/
Nevertheless I have seen this trend all over the place for a long time, dissing women for not looking like boards. Doesn't matter though, in reality women who may be a bit bigger than models but who still look good, still get a lot of attention, so it doesn't matter what media says, the sexuality of real men is a power than cannot be stopped! :D

It's not just that she was a little "chunky," it's that the costume designers seemed to have done everything they could to exaggerate her every minute flaw.
Girls with her (Double Dragon era) body type can be sexy as hell. Christina Ricci comes to mind. But it's like the filmmakers took every opportunity to make Alyssa look awkward and unappealing.
The first time Billy and Jimmy go all bonkers over her butt, she's doubled over, with a long jacket hanging flat like a fabric awning, covering all but the back of her stubby knees. The camera angle, costume, and blocking just ruin that poor girl. When Billy and Jimmy start elbowing each other over who gets first dibs, you have to wonder if the whole scene is being played as a joke.
