Really bad casting. Mr. Mitchell should be more affable so that you understand why Dennis becomes so wild and ill behaved from lax parenting. Instead they just have this mean geek played by a no-name. He was subtly abusive almost, while still letting Dennis do whatever he wanted to Mr Wilson as long as it wasn't his problem...
shareI agree the father didn't seem to be all that loving towards Dennis and seemed to have more of a no nonsense vibe in him than the cartoon, the comics and the 60's TV series.
shareYeah it creates this weird disconnect where Dennis- if he were real- would have a lot of personal problems from his upbringing. Put down by his father and Mr. Wilson constantly would give you a complex. Whereas I think it would be funny and slightly scary if Mr. Mitchell was one of those permissive douchebag dads like Jack Doherty's father- it would explain so much of why Dennis is the way he is, and how it's turning him into a little terror!
