switchblade sam useless as ever

what's the deal with this guy? he looks like he hasn't brushed his teeth in years or changed his clothes. he suddenly appears in some town off of a train. does he have a drug addiction? if not, what does he use his money on? or is he a serial killer?

this character seems to be very dastardly yet doesn't really have much of a meaning in life it seems.

I think he was homeless, like a hobo, he goes from town to town robbing houses and stealing things. He does not have a job and is a little crazy.

the amount of cigarettes he smokes doesn't help his personal hygiene either.

The idea was to show he was a bad guy in a nice town. I didn't care for his character either. He wasn't really necessary.

reply

He didn't brush his teeth in years, in fact, if you notice, get a close up and see, he has burnt baked bean teeth. Apparently his ex wife made him DIY dentures out of his favorite food. That's why at the end he doesn't eat the baked beans, he CAN'T eat them. His burnt baked bean teeth would fold in themselves from the softness of texture. You can't eat baked beans with baked beans, it doesn't make sense.

lol, wow

reply

He might not have been needed but he was still a great villain nonetheless. I love how he starts taking tips from a dennis about how to tie up someone.

reply

Then why does he open a can of baked beans at one point to put on the fire? Don't tell me he was going to feed Dennis.

reply

To feed himself? lol even criminals need to eat.

reply

LOL, of course. He was supposed to be a big bad villain, in contrast to the innocent people in town and especially the mischievous but still good hearted Dennis.

I wonder how his breath smells and why did the Sherriff tell him to follow the sun on out of here?

reply

He means "get outta town".

Best character of the movie!

They needed a guy like him to allow kids to see the difference between a bad guy and a cranky old man like Mr. Wilson.

He's a hobo, its a kid movie, its meant to be based on vague stereotypes. He's a dumb bad guy meant to give us comedy. Like the bad guys in Home Alone.

He seemed slightly out of place in this movie.

He looks like some kind of depression-era scumbag.
