barrel entertainment dvd is cut by 6 min. some is gore.

YOU would much rather have the vhs version. I'll will tell you why the dvd version is only 84 min. I bought the dvd for for almost $18.00, a mistake then I came across the vhs for only $6.00 bucks on ebay. It's 90 min. long it's uncut.

Dvd transfer runs around about 4% slower than vhs. So no it's not cut I promise you.

Interesting point because the PAL format creates a 4% speed-up and as you rightly say the NTSC runs 4% slower (than PAL) and is a more accurate guide to theatrical runtimes, however, the OP states the VHS has a longer runtime and since Barrel's DVD is NTSC format it reflects the full theatrical runtime so it shouldn't be slower than the VHS. They should have the same runtime unless the VHS is PAL format, in which case, the DVD’s runtime would be longer and the VHS runtime shorter.

I know for sure the Barrel release of the director's cut is completely uncut, so I can only assume there must be a fault with the OP's VHS tape or it contains something more by way of studio logos, etc., which seems unlikely since this is an independent film and logos wouldn’t account for such a time gap.

I only posted this as I'm curious to understand this anomaly (and have a little obsession with runtimes) and wonder if anyone can shed any light on this?

EDIT:

Director explains it on this thread. So glad. Was really scratching my head over this.

What we see as spectacle is in fact a ceremony

vivalacgw makes a good point, but I do have to add that the Barrell 2-DVD set has the original VHS version, completely un-altered (and unrestored). But that way you get a good comparison between the original version and the "vampire version".

LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie, even if the ending IS a little weak.
