Deadline: Sylvester Stallone set for ‘Cliffhanger’ sequel from 'Angel Has Fallen' director

Wow. I hope this turns out good. Cliffhanger is my favourite Stallone movie and it's one of the best action movies of the 90'a.
shareI liked 'GREENLAND' but this is unncessary.
Stallone returning piques my interest. Talk of a ‘reboot’ was insulting and a guaranteed pass for me, but this sounds like a sequel. I can work with this.
The red flags are Stallone’s age and the failure to bring back Harlin to direct. Angel Has Fallen was mediocre but… competent. If they can make a brutal action flick shot for real on a mountain, the way Top Gun: Maverick went for authenticity in the skies over CGI, and bring back Gabe, Hal and Jessie in meaningful roles appropriate to their age… this could be decent.
I’m not holding my breath though - the only thing Hollywood is good at is fucking things up. Stallone usually gets it right though, he just needs to make us believe that a septuagenarian has a good reason to be fighting for his life on a mountain.
Maybe Stallone's Gabe will be a character similar to Frank this time. I'll be surprised if this really turns out good, but I really do hope. Greenland was great imo and Shot Caller and Felon were good too, so I do have faith in the director.
shareYeah Gabe could be relegated to Frank-style helicopter rescuing, but if he’s coming back we really want to see him killing baddies with stalactites/icicles/cliff edges. It’ll be interesting to see how they balance Stallone with, presumably, a younger hero who he mentors.
How they work in a villain will also be amusing. It was already a stretch to have a team of gun-toting psychotic robbers crash land on a mountain so that you could get ‘Die Hard On A Mountain’, what are the odds of another band of trigger-happy psychos appearing on the Rockies?
Then there’s the issue of Gabe’s absurd misfortune. Accidentally drops his best friend’s girl, friend hates him, takes a distress call on the one day he returns for his gf and it turns out to be a trap. He then gets beaten, bombed, shot at, frozen etc etc and most of his friends get murdered.
If this shit happens all over again then he’s officially the unluckiest ‘hero’ ever.

share“So, the way that he passed the torch to Michael B. Jordan in Creed, you know, off the Rocky franchise, Stallone’s character will be, of the age he is now – Gabe Walker – he’s got a daughter, he’s got an heir apparent, pseudo son, and they have a mountaineering company, Italian Alps. Tragedy strikes that’s very similar to what happened in the original movie, so that father and daughter have to deal with that and how to overcome tragedy. How do we get through traumatic experiences and fight to move forward? It’s what extreme sports like climbing are all about. And of course, there might be some nefarious bad guys that show up in the Italian Alps, and all hell breaks loose.”
That's about what I expected. I'm getting excited about this sequel.
Sounds Wokandan to me.
shareI'd rather have seen a drama surrounding Jessie, Gabe and Tucker about what happened that day. Traumatic memories and strained relationships. Maybe a dose of not having seen each other in a long time aswell thrown into it and the impact it has wheen Tucker and Gabe meet once again.
Kind of like i wanted in the Creed movies aswell. I was interested in the aging Rocky's life he didn't have to be boxing over and over.
It should begin filming later this year.
