Even if Carlito had made it to the Bahamas…

Say he had gotten away and Pachanga hadn’t sold him out to Benny Blanco, the Mob would have found him in the Bahamas.

Carlito’s mistake was that he yapped too much about his future plans. He told Kleinfeld and the DA Norwalk knew about it as well. It would have gotten to the Italians eventually.

I’m sure they were perfectly capable of sending a couple of hitmen to take out Carlito in the Bahamas.

Carlito’s entire planning and thought process was quite flawed. He put too much “street trust” in Kleinfeld and Pachanga. Calling Kleinfeld his “brother” even though the signs of David being coked out and unstable were increasingly visible. And he refused to listen to Saso when the latter warned him about the duplicitous nature of Pachanga.

He also displayed a lack of patience when dealing with Benny Blanco. Carlito should have been laser focused on his plan to retire in the Bahamas and treated any minor inconvenience along the way, like Benny Blanco as the cost of doing business to suffer fools temporarily.

What’s treating a guy like Benny with some pretend respect for a few months compared to lifetime retirement to the islands?

Carlito warned his little cousin Guajiro about the dangers of that “shit business” but he didn’t listen to his own advice.

He should have kept his mouth shut about his future plans, exhibited some patience and very small scale respect for Benny Blanco and not been blinded by his “street code” loyalty to Kleinfeld and Pachanga.

He also could have handled the situation with the Italians better at the club. They might not have given chase if he hadn’t been caught in a stupid lie about not seeing Kleinfeld at the hospital.

Yeah Carlito could have made it to the Bahamas with Gail. He just couldn’t put all the pieces together at the right time and place.
