Read it on the Trivia section and thanx Lord Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks were not cast in this movie, could have been a banal Hollywood crap comedy instead one of the most fascinating movies that came from the 90's. Woody Harrelson looked to goofy to play Benny's role, Laura Dern could have been interesting to see in the role, but Mary Stuart Masterson nailed it very well, and she was a way more pretty w/a face of an angel, Depp was amazing as Sam and Aidan Quinn very solid, Julianne Moore was also good. Excellent movie w/great casting choices, and the main theme by The Proclaimers fits the tone and the story of the movie like a glove.

One hundred percent agree! i do love Tom Hanks and Julia, but I agree it would not have been the same, less interesting and more American rom-com! Johnny was perfect at both the physical comedy and working well with Mary Stuart Masterson on the more serious side. Mary was brilliant, and this film made me want to watch more of her work - she's brilliant as Joon! Aidan was great, and I could relate to him and his situation. Julianne Moore was great, and i love both the music and the style of the film - so interesting, and such a gem!

And Movie, I agree with everything you said about this film (I do think Laura Dern would also have been great in this too) and would add one thing: I also love Tom and Julia and saw the film they made together called Larry Crowne. Sadly, IMHO, flat as a pancake.
