is it out on dvd?

It's been out on DVD since last year but yesterday the special edition came out. This upsets me a little as they should have done this last year, I mean the films only been out for 12 years you know? Anyway it says surround sound on Amazon but doesn't mention whether it's Dolby Surround 2.0 or Dolby Digital 5.1. If it's not 5.1 then I don't need to waste money on it. If it's in 5.1 then I'll gladly upgrade my 2003 2.0 release on DVD of this movie and watch it the way it's meant to be seen.

Yes. Not a huge distribution however. Amazon seemed to have a "special edition" but not anymore; I ended up ordering the widescreen edition from Barnes and Noble, which still has a lot of special features. And of course after I ordered I saw it for sale at a local Boston Newbury Comics for a few bucks less...but other than that no sign of it.

I guess the one I got this last week is a new special edition, or the special edition re-released! It's got great extras- mainly the interview footage with the director and Ian Hart.....

Yes the special edition luckily had a 5.1 track on it.
I'm pissed with the studios for releasing three different versions of some of their movies.
Ultimate Edition. Special Edition, Directors Cut, etc., etc.
I rented the new Backbeat and placed my copy into the Blockbuster envelope (the one with only Dolby 2.0 on it) when I returned it.
To hell with them, I'm not buying it twice.
Multi-channel is so much better than stereo when it comes to movies.
