I've read that his problems might have resulted from an incident in the summer of 1959. This was after a show the group performed in Litherland where a bunch of Teddy Boys jumped them and started beating up on them. The other boys got away but Stuart got kicked in the head rather severely. His head injury bled for hours and his mother pleaded with him to see a doctor. He told her that if she did call one, he would leave home for good and she would never see him again. Then there was another fight after a show in 1961, where John Lennon got his finger broken and Stuart suffered another, more severe head injury. This time his skull was fractured. If only he had sought medical treatment after he got hurt, he might be alive today. By the time he did, it was too late.
