shareYou tell us!
shareIt doesn't, which is a real shame, because I think it's a great film. The image quality on the DVD is pretty bad. For crying out loud, the picture isn't even centered! And I'm certain (though I've never seen it in its theatrical release) that it's too dark, too.
Somehow, though, I still found it extremely good. So I guess it's just passable? But really it's more like VHS quality.
i can confirm that this is just about the worst quality dvd i have ever seen - it's as though someone rushed a vhs to dvd transfer that someone shot with a video camera at the cinema. vhs puts this to shame, honestly. i'm almost glad this release is no longer available, because it's a real insult to PG's work, the cast and especially to the buying public.
shareIf it's that bad .. i have a good recording, from digital satellite,
and could make a few copies, for private use ..
Was it on TV at some point?

"Who's the lady with the log?"
"We call her the log lady."
It was on CinéCinéma Auteur, with french subtitles.
I recorded thru S-video to D-VHS, and then transfered
to DVD, at standard speed (5 Mbps).
Cool. What did you think of it? Of the Greenaway films I've yet to see, due to lack of decent releases, it sounds the most intriguing.

This one is his most spectacular, and probably most intriguing, even to the point of confusion (see my other post). Spectacular literally, as in spectacle: big cast, mostly on stage at all times, with strong colors, music ... something to watch, listen to and (try to) understand repeatedly
(like Kubrick and Gilliam). Of his other movies, i liked "Belly of an architect" most, but haven't seen it recently.
As do Drowning by Numbers and The Belly of an Architect. Wish it wasn't such a bitch to find decent copies of these. There are several bad quality vhs and DVDs of Macon, is the picture of your copy as bad as those reportedly are?

I don't know - i haven't seen any other version.
My last "client" said the quality was good - maybe he can tell you more?

I just went through the External reviews section -
not many there, but all worth (re)reading.
