Why exactly is the US title 'Army Of One'?

This has to be the most awful and generic title I have ever seen. The original name "Joshua Tree" sounds much cooler and goes well with the location the film is set in. The title "Army Of One" doesn't even make any sense in this film, because it's not a one man army as he gets help from Kristian Alfonso's character. At the part where she says "If you kill him, you'll never get the money", if it was just him, he would have been killed so that completely defeats the laughable tagline "Sometimes one man is all it takes" on the Artisan DVD.

At the time around 1994, when the film came to video, Artisan (boo, hiss!) did not want it to be confused with the U2 video called Joshua Tree.

The DVD is a direct, non-digital port of the VHS. A horrible, lazy attempt with no effort put into it whatsoever.

I also HATE the Army of One title, whoever thought of it should be shot. As the trailer on the crappy, fullscreen pan and scam DVD says this film is and will always be called Joshua Tree.

I impatiently wait for Lion's Gate to give this film a re-mastered 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, DD 5.1 release. So many obscure and forgotten films get better treatment. Why can't Joshua Tree even get a fair release?

"Army of One" certainly fits Santee but Joshua Tree is way better, so I agree.

But it's not an army of one. If it wasn't for Rita's (Kristian Alfonso) help towards the end, George Segal and Beau Starr chracters would have killed him. There's a scene where they surround him and are about to shoot him until Rita shouts "If you kill him, you'll never get the money" to which they respond with "What money?" and she says "The money he took from Jimmy Shoeshine". Then the gullible bastards ask Santee to guide him to it where he climbs up some rocks and offers to split the money, then throws dust in their faces and beats the crap out of the two, disarming them.

So not only is the title completely unoriginal, it also doesn't make sense in this particular film.

It's just that (stupid) distributors think "Army Of One" sounds and sells better as a Dolph Lundgren movie than "Joshua Tree".
