New Documentary!

The History Channel put out a wonderful documentary, I Am Alive: Surviving The Andes Plane Crash, I'd highly recommend it for those who enjoyed the movie. I was just channel surfing & happened upon it the night it came out. I found out about a few inaccuracies in the movie, but what movie doesn't haven them? This happened when I was only a few months old & the true story fascinates me!

I saw it - excellent documentary. In ways it's better than Stranded, as it gives perspectives from people other than the survivors. Nando and Roberto's trek is one of the most inspiring feats I've ever seen, and the documentary gives more details on it, which is excellent.

the history channel documentary was like the movie ALIVE sentimental, with music tended to effect your emotions.STRANDED gave you the pure facts.the few piano key music was much more effective.

Never heard of it. I'll need to look into it.

Look on the History Channel's website. I taped it, but I see it's going to be offered on DVD.

I just saw the documentary on the History Channel and it was very good. It was well told, gripping, touching, horrifying, overall, just really powerful. I felt very connected because a lot of the interviews and the narration are done by the actual survivors. I highly recommend it.

It was so good that when I saw this movie on TV I was really interested to watch the dramatic telling of the story.

There are loads of documentaries on YouTube including 'Stranded' and 'The Miracle of the Andes'. For me the best one is 'Miracle' as nearly all of the survivors talk - not just the usual Parrado and Canessa. Having said that, Parrado is my hero and had me in tears at the end of Part4 of 'Miracle', with his 'I am not a hero, I just wanted to live' speech.

You Tube also has the film 'Alive!' in about 20 parts.

Actually...I just watched 'Stranded' which is Spanish with English subtitles - and it is by far the best documentary about all of the survivors, where they go into real detail about the difficult decisions they have to make on the mountain.

Hard to watch and believe that it really happened.

The History Channel documentary is now available on DVD. I got mine last week. I don't see it as "better" than Stranded or Alive:After 20 Years (also called "Miracle in the Andes" on You Tube), but different and supplementary to them. It includes new interviews and perspectives from other experts (Ed Viesturs, the man who summited Mt. Everest multiple times and all the world's 8000-meter peaks without using oxygen; medical experts in cold weather and altitude issues; Uruguayan Air Force personnel, mountaineer Ricardo Pena who was the first to trek up to the impact site and retrieve Eduardo Strauch's coat and documents, and many more).

It's moving, informative, and extremely well done. Worth every penny. It has a few short bonus items of interest, including some brief interviews with Nando's sister, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Nicola, Laura Canessa and more. There's an interesting little tour of the business Nando's father started in Montevideo 50-odd years ago, and a snippet about the trek Ricardo Pena and Eduardo Strauch organize to the crash scene every February, and their plans to have a museum exhibit about the crash, featuring some of the relics recovered.
