One of the most emotional scenes ever

The moment when the helicopter approach to rescue the survivors must be one of the most emotional scenes ever. It gives me chills everytime I see, and like I want to cry. Does everyone feels this way?

reply

Yes. The expression on Carlitos' face is incredible when he first hears the choppers. Beautifully done.

What knockers!
Oh, thank you, doctor.

Through the door of the open helecopter we see the jubilation on the faces of Roberto Canessa and Nando Parado.
When Nando holds up the little red shoe and below on the ground, Edwardo in turn, waves his little shoe in the air always makes me get ready to cry........
becasue Aaron Neville's Ave Maria will be playing at the conclusion of the movie.
It is "box of Kleenex" ending at it's best.

Here a imdb tidbit for the Trivia section for Alive

In the film, the arrival of the rescue helicopters comes as an overwhelming surprise to the survivors in the fuselage. In real life, they actually heard in the news on their radio that Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa had reached safety. The survivors then prepared for the arrival of the rescuers by putting on the best clothes they could find, and even brushing their teeth and combing their hair.

Actually, I arrived at this page after listening to Aaron Neville on YouTube, and seeing a comment about how powerful this song was in 'Alive'.

His Ave Maria makes me emotional already, so I guess I'll be one of those 'box of Kleenex' people. I've added the movie to my Netflix queue.

Just watched it again on cable this week and made it all the way to that last scene - when the red baby booties came out, I cried like a 5 yr old... You can't help but think about what the real survivors felt at that moment.

When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.

reply

I bawl everytime!

reply

I just watched it again. I cry every time I see the helicopters. And when Nando opens the door, well I need a box of kleenex.

reply

...best ending in a film EVER.

Even better IMO than 127 Hours.

reply

I get ready to shed a tear, but then I picture Horatio Sanz as Aaron Neville singing Ava Maria, and I can't stop laughing...

I always replay that scene a few times when I watch the film, starting right when they show the survivors sitting in the fuselage looking desolate. The way the sound of the choppers slowly becomes evident makes goose bumps come up all over - then the screams of the survivors start the floods of tears. Guaranteed every time.

Chalice

Those who think you're insane for dancing can't hear the music.

reply

I could have written that myself, Chalice !

reply

Yes, it is an emotional scene. But the one that is a, "Kleenex moment," for me is when Alberto is crying because he's, "so close to God." I hear the music that plays during that scene, and it's enough to make me cry.

Oh most definately one of the most emotionally moving scenes I have ever experienced. Such a tremendously inspirational film. I would recommend everyone see it (not little children), to see the strength of the human spirit, the courage and never to take anything for granted. This movie is so special and unique in so many ways. I am grateful to have seen it and sorry for all those that were lost up there.

reply

I cry every time.

Definitely I cried tears of joy for these young men being rescued ( and the little red baby sneakers scene is the best too ) ! A very effective overall scene indeed it always leaves a lasting and most hopeful impression for this film . Thanks so much dsanchez-2 for your subject post .
