As strange as this sounds, i remember when this movie came out in Canada, i was like 12 i think..i had just seen the National In-Line skate series on TV and Airborne on Video and thought aggressive in-line was the coolest thing ever...as a hockey player and skateboarder i figured thats the best way to combine both so i traded my hockey inlines for Tarmac CE's( the original aggressive skates) and long story short got sponsored by Rollerblade and ended up competing for the next 8 years and getting to travel across Canada and the USA skating...so i guess i owe this movie a big thanx...anyone else get inspired to skate from the movie?
I remmeber watching this movie when i was around 12 as well, and wanted to be an inline skater.
It's funny now such a silly movie can have such an effect on us when we are young. I remember always working on my skates and cleaning my bearngs. ABEC3s were the sh**. And one year I even got a HOP UP KIT WITH ANODIZED ALUMINUM SPACERS!!!!! I always hit my dad up for the 4mm or 5/32" wrenches (my God, I can't believe i still remember that!)
I often wonder if playing with those ball bearings inspired a fascination in the way mechanical devices work. Which led me to an interest in mechanical engineering.
i remember Fag bearings, hahaha.....I remember when ABEC 7's came out for Inlines and we all lost our minds, it was insane fast....for some reason i remmeber like 9's 0r 11's too....but im not 100% sure....oh well...where ya from?
As a California-Minnesota-California transplant during high school, I identify very well with Airborne. Forntunately, I didn't surf. As a mechanical engineer today, I wonder how many sets of bearings Mitchell went through on his way from Devil's Backbone to the finish line.
