he was telling her that he use to think that he was a bad ass until somthing tradjic (spell?) happend , then he realized that he wasnt so bad and he had to stop taking things serious

Surfers talked like that in the 80's and 90's.The slang is still there but its changes.I should know, I am a surfer living in a surf town, working in a surf shop.
