Did they ever trade out for better looking costumes?

During the MMPR era, did they ever come up with better looking Zyuranger suits? I'm watching parts of season 2 and they're still all pretty baggy and cheap looking. The American version of the white ranger costume looks fine though, like they must have actually borrowed it from Toei like they did with Rita/Bandora's minions. Considering the stinginess of Saban, I'm amazed Lord Zedd's costume and throne room came out looking as good as they did.

I don't think they ever did. I think they looked a tad better in Season 3, but not by much. Later seasons when they cropped up had better costumes - Adam in Always a Chance, Jason in Forever Red, Tommy's dream sequence in Fighting Spirit, and they looked pretty slick in Super Megaforce.

But yeah, the american side of things looked pretty crummy for a while - it was a while before the show caught up in quality (production wise) to Sentai.

Let's roll some tits up the flagpole and see if anyone gets wood.

Interesting thing with Zedd is he was a 100% American creation, that was all Saban. The first feature film did give the Rangers far higher quality and detailed suits, but I think there was a copyright thing on why the show couldn't port them over to Season 3. I am glad the show didn't port over Goldar's film suit to replace the show's, that thing looked more cheap than most stuff Saban did in Season 1! Later in the third season the suits were given the "Metallic Armor" upgrade, but that was basically just silver glitter on doubles of the existing Saban costumes.

As Tricky said, when we get MMPR returns in later seasons, there does appear to be a higher level of improvement. Adam's Black Ranger in "Always a Chance" and the two-part "Once a Ranger", Jason's Red Ranger in "Forever Red", Tommy's Green and White Rangers in "Fighting Spirit", and of course the Super Megaforce finale.
