How do the Power Rangers get Together when Combining the Robot?

I am not a fan and never will be. Try and explain this to me. I watched the pilot episode. The Power Rangers combine their robots to form a tank and a giant robot the same way the vehicle Voltron did. Once merged the heroes are inside one control room together. At what point, and how did they arrive together in one room?

To make it more confusing, at one point the pink one has not merged with the others, yet she is already inside with her friends. How did she join her group and who is flying her robot?

I think Voltron did this much better where every pilot remains in his vehicle during the combination.

That made a little more sense at 01:32 in the video. Why can't they just stay in their own vehicle? I would think each person should control their own vehicle from their respective location inside the robot.
