6.9? Come on people, get real

are you kidding me? ... this should be well over an 8.... 6.9 is a little low for Letterman. Fallons page has an 7.9, you go to Conans page and see 8.1... Not hating on either one but come on. We're talking about a show that was on for 20+ years... Really does prove some people rate just to lower ratings, if it wasn't for those people you know this would be well over 6.9.... And only 10,000 votes? .. Another weird thing is this message board is surprisingly empty & only has threads dating back to late 2015.

Used to be a lot more but the board reached it's maximum number of posts and the IMDb purged it.

As for the rating, sounds about right to me. Though Dave came out of the gate at full speed when he went to CBS, as time wore on things changed that had a negative affect on the show. Stuff like Dave pre-taping Friday shows instead of doing them on the actual day; remotes segments (something that had been one of his great strengths) being done by other people; allowing his political preference to show a bit too much; and I wonder if letting Mortie go as producer didn't bring things down a bit, too. Personally, I objected to his use of "Late Show" to publically flog Jay Leno over "The Tonight Show" debacle when just a few months earlier, Jay had not mocked Dave- like we know he could've- during "Interngate". Rather than being all that concerned about Conan, it seemed more like Dave was just displaying his own decades old bitterness over NBC choosing Jay over him to replace Carson. "Late Night With David Letterman" I would happily give a 10 as this might have been the finest late night show ever. That's when Dave was young, hip, inspired imitation, and helped define late night tv for the majority of the 80's. It was also before bitterness became one of his traits. "Late Night With David Letterman" was Dave at his best.

6.9 is kinda high for the CBS show. He was on auto pilot for the last 15 years. I agree with the other poster, the NBC show was a solid 10.

It's been a long time since I watched this show. I did enjoy it the few times I got to watch it. Always loved the top 10 list. I never watched it regularly though since it was always on when I had to go to bed as a kid and teen. Then after I moved out of my parents' house after highschool, I could never get CBS to come in on my antenna. I couldn't afford cable. Frankly I still refuse to get it. Too expensive. Rather watch my shows online now anyway.
