I remember growing up watching John Larroquette on what are still two of my favorite shows(when I can happen to catch reruns) The first being Night Court, which I know there has to be other people who want to be able to watch the old night court episodes besides me. And then later the John Larroquette Show. He was and still is one of the funniest guys on TV(after Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin anyway). So how about you put this guy on DVD for us?
sharehey.... i whole heartily agree .... do you even know of anyone that has any episodes... i haven't seen them since the network forced the show to appeal to the dreck of society (the cogs)... the first season is tremendous.... why these network execs hold so tightly to their antediluvian nineteen fifties propaganda ideals is beyond me... seems they'd make a great deal more scratch if they allowed the general populous to see that society has never been perfect, nor could it live up to the fraudulent and therefore.......ummmm sorry 'bout that .... wrong meeting.... if you know of anything please respond...
shareI have almost all the episodes on VHS. Though I really want them to release a DVD. One the best shows ever! It's my second favorite show of all time. I really hope we see daylight of a DVD it be a shame if we don't.
shareI really liked this show. I was a younger teenager when it debuted, and even then I could tell it was unique and something special. I'd love to see the first season again. I hope it does come to DVD sometime.

I loved Night Court when I was a kid (I still do, and am totally getting a kick out of the season 1 dvd-waiting for the next season impatiently!!!)and The John Larroquette Show is definately one of my all time favorite shows as well. This is the show I've been waiting for on dvd..The dvd is long overdue and I'm glad to see others agree too.
I could have seen this show still going strong if it hadn't been messed with by the network.
& props to Larroquette for being such a great under-rated actor!

shareThe 1st season of The John Laroquette Show was one of the best seasons for any sitcom ever. Then the researches, consultants and suits with no patience or long term planning skills insisted John needed a girlfriend to get women to watch and took him out of the bus station for 80% of every episode the rest of the series. Don't any of these suits remember shows like Cheers and Seinfeld? Ensemble shows take longer to develop a relationship with an audience. Cheers and Seinfeld had horrible ratings their 1st seasons and nearly got cancelled in both cases. The bus station and the characters WERE the show. Unique funny people. Who thought------hey we should change this into a boyfriend and girlfriend show and have them deal with their problems on TV----NO ONE HAS EVER DONE THAT BEFORE. Insight. Wow! The show managed to combine comedy with serious story lines and really pull it off without being syrupy or goofy. The episode where John's sponsor, David Crosby, dies is one of the best episodes of television ever. Very moving without any humor that was in bad taste. The episodes with his child were very good as well. Another minor bite in the behind was changing the great theme song after season one. I can hear the suits: "We need something upbeat and GENERIC! Yeah, generic will really push the ratings thru the roof. OK, I'm ranting. I'll jump now and try and decompress. I hope we see season one on DVD someday. The episode when Oscar, who lived in the phone booth, was reported (by his daughter?) and social services came to check him out, they found him cleaned up and stable, and the fools bought it and gave him a pass. So true to life. The first season was a masterpiece. I'd love to be able to see it again, and the second season too. The third season was a waste. I agree completely, Turtleturk. Season one WAS magnificent. Besides what you mentioned--they cleaned the show up--in an attempt to homogenize it. They cut Hemingway's hair. They moved him from his seedy hole to a 'nice' apartment building. Not only did they give him a girlfriend--she was a nurse. They already HAD the perfect GF for a burn-out like him--Carly, the hooker, but, of course, the suits couldn't conceive of a hooker as a person w/whom to have a romance. After that, she was sidelined. They were trying to make it genially wacky, like Night Court. Before--the show was DARK! Chester(David Crosby) was brilliant casting. Him dying, but hanging around was a stroke of genius. John's AA meetings!
I loved the one where his old college chum (Lane Smith) showed up--as a fading drag queen. John won the lottery, but gave him the money.
I won't blame Alison Laplaca for the show jumping the shark. The producers deserve that credit.
This show SHOULD have been on HBO, where dark stuff is appreciated---Six Feet Under, for instance. They'd have treated it right.

Hi ya Hempknight, I remember it well. There have been some great stand ups that have been given shows and then no time to get them off the ground. Just like The Good Life with John Caponera, John Mendoza's show was funny and given no time. No one can deliver a dry line in comedy any better. Loved the scenes with him and the ex. I wish that they would've had more scenes together. Maybe they should've still been married and driving each other nuts instead of being divorced----a bit like the Barones. I liked Mindy Cohn in it as well. I wish she could've gotten the mileage outta this one instead of Facts Of Life. And Wayne Knight (Pre-Newman) is just plain funny--period. The Second Half is definitely in my Top 10 shows that were cancelled toooo early (Titus, The Good Life, Lenny Clarke's It's All Relative...) or screwed up by researchers and, or consultants like The John Larroquette Show. As everybody knows, the producers neutered the show after the first season--but I've been rewatching the first season this week and I'm genuinely stunned by what a good show this was!!

8, almost 9 years. People are still begging. You'd think the studio would get a clue. It doesnt matter if they liked the show or not, people want it. They are willing to pay money for it.
