I guess this show drew a great deal of the Murder She Wrote viewers

when MSW finally ended.

Similar in lighthearted look at murder.

Similar in lighthearted look at murder.

True, but that was not the only factor that attracted MSW viewers (of which I am emphatically one). Well-written scripts, attractive locations, appealing guest stars (many of whom had long histories in the days of classic films/TV, though this was less so in DM), and--perhaps most importantly of all--an immensely sympathetic and "audience-friendly" principal.

I developed an interest in--and then a love for--MSW chiefly because I was, and am, a loyal fan of Angela Lansbury. Similarly, I began watching DM chiefly because of Dick Van Dyke, and only gradually developed an affection for the show for its own sake.

If we die for them, Harry, I'm going to KILL YOU!

I'm a big fan of both but don't remember watching MSW as it aired as I did DM - at least from S3 or 4 onward. Started watching MSW around the 00's.

I enjoyed them both. Diagnois Murder, in the early seasons anyway, sometimes had a touch of realism that you never got in Murder she wrote. issues like hospital funding, the cost of drugs, whether poor people should get free treatment etc, were touched on which was interesting.
