Where is Mark's oceanfront house supposed to be?

I know his house change and car change weren't mentioned -- they just happened.

I can't imagine a community hospital doctor -- even chief of internal medicine -- being able to afford an oceanfront house, with such a large lot (houses aren't close together) anywhere CLOSE to the LA area.

He's very careful with his money you know.

reply

Well I guess being a consultant for the police department pays more than we ever suspected.

He had a house that was in the mountains and it was destroyed in a wildfire. Could be that with the insurance money as a down payment he was able to get a mortgage for the rest? He or his deceased wife may have also had family money.

This was actually mentioned in an episode. Dr. Sloan's response was that back when he bought the property it wasn't nearly as desirable as it has become. Apparently the implication is that he bought the property when it was a bargain and moved there after he lost his first home.

Do you know which episode?

I have seen all episodes several times each.

I am 4 episodes into season 3 on a re-watch ... and they have yet to explain/mention the new house (or the new car ('55 Jag replaced by a Maxda RX7 convertible)). I have been watching/listening for it, after reading your post.

Update: On episode S03E13, the black Saab convertible has appeared (without explanation) and still no word on the oceanfront house.

Thanks.

Professor - I think it was in the Andy Griffith episode. Matlock asks Sloane how he can afford such a property. Dr. Sloane tells Matlock that his house is in Malibu, and was purchased years ago when no one was interested in that area. Iirc he says it was off the beaten track back then, but of course being beachfront, skyrocketed in popularity and cost in more recent times. My guess would be that it was paid off years ago, but in current times Dr. Sloane wouldn't have been able to afford the house. I think the same is true in On Golden Pond. They had a property purchased years ago that a principal and school teacher wouldn't be able to buy now.

Thanks.

I will keep an eye out for it (just finishing season 3).

Was there ever an explanation/discussion/mention of the car? It was such an integral part of the plot of season 2 (we were always seeing it breaking down, or being towed or at the garage)?

Thanks again.

reply

You're welcome. I don't remember any discussion about the car. Usually I watch as often as I can on The Hallmark Channel, and maybe we can update one another if or when the car is mentioned. The way it is televised on Hallmark the episodes are often out of order, so hopefully a later ep will give some explanation.

reply

It was a bit disappointing to see the car disappear without any mention.

However to be fair - as said - it was show to be continuously breaking down and costing a fortune in repairs so maybe no further mention was really required...

reply

Same thing happened to me. Just not in Malibu.

reply

I think it was the episode with Andy Griffith as Matlock where he explained that he bought the house way back.

Where IS Mark's house, really? Can we see it?
