Song Used In Very First Episode...

Hello Everyone, I hope you're all doing well!

I've heard sooo much about CRACKER, and it's all been raves, so I'm checking it out. Just watched the first two parts that made up THE MAD WOMAN IN THE ATTIC. Loved it!

As I'm sure you all know who have seen it, they make great use of music in the show.

In the first episode (near the end), there is a song with the lyrics, "Don't be afraid, don't run away, be strong..." that I just love. It's a woman singing.

I've looked the whole world wide internet over and had no luck getting the artist and song title...

Would any of you kind souls be able to help me out?

And...is there a website anyone might know of that list the songs used in each episode?

Thank You So Much For Any Help!

I just watched that episode last night and in the very end name Carol Kidd was mentioned. They showed that only for a second, but you can find more information about the singer-songwriter from the Internet. Here is the address of her official page: http://www.carolkidd.com/

Thank You for your reply, Most Wonderful tiina-8!

I'm not sure if it is Carol Kidd, as I could only find a little bit of her vocals to compare, and it didn't grab me as being the same singer. But truthfully, I'm not sure either way.

Oh well...I've been haunted by certain songs for years in the past before I got to "scratch that itch"! I found a Cracker site that I think is based in England, so I'll post there, and if I get some good info I'll pass it back on here.

Thanks again!

yes, Carol Kidd was the one singing live when they had the argument in the restaurant too, as well as being used incidentally with Stormy Weather and Summertime too - but neither of these have those lyrics in. Can't remember any other song being used though?

But my reason for coming on this board was to see if there was any particular reason for Summertime being used throughout - it's a great song, but didn't really seem appropriate if you know what I mean...

"Wait till they get a load of me!"

I think summertime was used in a twofold way.

One way is the stomach-turning enhancement the song gives when the Mother sees her dead daughter and begins to comfort her. (Mother: we're gonna take you home, fondles the bodies hear, etc.) --> Summertime has some lyrics like: hush so hush little baby, Don't you cry. AND: One of these mornings You're going to rise up singing Then you'll spread your wings And you'll take to the sky, which could be a metaphor for dead.

The other way the song is used is to underline the contrast of the lush life sung in Summertime and the stormy weather Fitz & Judith are in.

My 2 cents.
