The absolute best Cracker eps were the ones with maniac Robert Carlyle

I'm telling you, the absolute best!

Does that piercing insight get us anywhere?

I couldn't agree more that the episode with Robert Carlyle was the best!! He made such a convincing psycho. Every time I hear the word "assume" I hear him saying it to Fitz in the interrogation room and then he starts singing the football song. AWESOME episode.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Mention Cracker to anyone and they'll nine times out of ten think of this story - wonderfully written, beautifully acted and quite tragic. One of the finest pieces of drama ever put on the telly box.

my favourite was with the Bonnie and Clyde killers...some classic Cracker lines in that...and some great lines from Chris Eccleston too

Yeah, it was amazingly well-written, and Robert Carlyle does a brilliant job.

Personally, though, I remember this story mostly for the impact of David Billborough's sad death, and the start of Jimmy Beck's fall into darkness.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Agreed, Carlyle was amazing.

I agree his performance was chilling and the shocking impact the episode left on the later episodes was amazing. The episode I think has to be one of my favorite episodes of television ever written. The episode also touched an emotional nerve with the Hillsborough back story.
