Ruined television for me.

Cracker has ruined television for me. Although not a big fan of telly I used to enjoy shows like CSI and The Bill. However "Cracker" is just so damn good that whenever I see other shows now they just look like bloody adolescent garbage in comparison. I sit there enjoying the new Battlestar Galactica thinking how well written it is. Then this little voice in my head says, "yeah, but it isn't up to the standard set by Cracker".

Thank you to Jimmy McGovern, Paul Abbott, Robbie Coltrane, Geraldine Somerville, Christopher Eccleston, Lorcan Cranitch and Ricky Tomlinson among others for making a drama show so good that everything else comes off badly in comparison.

And for giving me the most compelling piece of TV drama I've ever seen.

I'm glad the man who liked "The Eight Doctors" hated "Alien Bodies". These people deserve no pity.

... The Lakes was brilliant, too... !

There's definitely something rustling behind your curtain...

I coudn't agree more. Cracker is such quality all the way. The script, the characters, the acting...it's brilliant.

All British dramas are the best IMHO. You can't beat their quality of writing. EG: SILENT WITNESS; NEW TRICKS: INSPECTOR FROST; LEWIS; INSPECTOR LYNLEY and loads more......

Took the words out of my mouth... The misses is disappointed for odd 8 years due to the fact that I can't be bothered to watch ANYTHING on tv save Cracker

What has it turned me into........Dwayne Dibley

Prime Suspect is pretty good as well, and I see there is a new one coming on ITV soon (UK TV station).

I'm not really much of a tv watcher, but in my most humble opinion the best serious, dramatic, tv show I've seen is "The Sopranos", and "Cracker" is a close 2nd.

And "The Sopranos" is not standing up to its reputation, but I can watch "Cracker" over and over again.

"columnated ruins domino"--"surf's up".

Like someone else mentioned.Prime suspect is well worth watching if you like this kind of drama.

absolutely LOVE british mysteries, but its genetic as i learned it from my parents :) Wire in the Blood, Prime Suspect, Blue Murder, Rebus, A Touch of Frost, Inspector Morse... i love each one the same for the little subtle differences between them!

Luther is actually in much the same mold as Cracker. Much darker, but well worth watching...

Hahaha yeah, I grew up watching Cracker with my parents - I never stood a chance to enjoy television. Completely agree. Nothing compares.

However in terms of crime drama, etc. I've enjoyed Jonathan Creek (funny & clever in its own, different way). And other things Jimmy McGovern has written - such as Accused, and The Street.

Actually, I've recently been watching some Australian dramas (I'm from Sydney, so not sure when they'll be available overseas, although I've heard networks have Ben keen to buy them) - 'The Slap' and 'The Straits' - both written by the same person I think. Anyway, if you're used the the quality of Cracker, these won't disappoint.

For more crime drama of the highest quality, check out "The Wire" and "The Shield".

"Prime Suspect" is superb, too.
