I find this show to be very soothing

I love watching this;it may sound weird, but it's like wrapping myself in a warm blanket. There's something strangely comforting about it.

These British shows have a warm aura to them. The characters, setting, tone etc.

You are so right. Most nights I watch an episode or two on my dvd set and feel as if I am with old friends.

I agree, it has a comforting feel about it, and its nice top watch it after a stressful day.
Funny in a subtle way and the characters are very good in it, all endearing and nobody too annoying.
It is a real classic and is right up there with the best sitcoms. Im not sure if its the most successful sitcoms Judy Dench or Geoffrey Palmer have been in as they have been in a few, but its my favourite work of theirs.

It is so soothing I often fall asleep.

The Brits specialised in this type of thing. It was known as "gentle comedy". To The Manor Born, Last of the Summer Wine, One Foot in the Grave are a few others.

Agree, except for what I find to be the intrusive canned laughter.

reply

ATGB does not feature canned laughter. It is a live audience. The number of hacking coughs one can hear during any given episode from said audience proves that conclusvely!
