Adventure Time is a much better show than Animaniacs. I grew up watching Animaniacs and it was my favorite show, it still makes me laugh to this day. It's very funny... much funnier than most kids shows out there, but that's all it is, just funny. Stupid random humor. It's entertaining, sure, but it doesn't make you think. Adventure Time, on the other hand is not only funny, but it's creative and beautifully designed. The characters and storylines are much more interesting in Adventure Time. And while I never did really learn a lesson in the end from the Wheel of Morality, Adventure Time has really good underlying values, and helps children learn about real-life pains in an imaginative way (Marceline's relationship with her father, Princess Cookie and being transgendered, The Earl of Lemongrabb being anti-social, Finn being in love with someone who doesn't love him back, etc...) And the backstory behind The Land of Ooo and all of the creatures and magic in their world being caused by a nuclear war and how so many little details in the show relate back to it is very interesting as well, you should look into it. While Animaniacs is a classic and will always be in my heart, Adventure Time is all-round much better, even if it is from today's wretched generation of kid's shows.

well thats the thing tara, Animaniacs has no storylines. And I wouldn't say its stupid humor. It makes references to things that no kid would ever know. The first episode alone has the CEO walk on his table referencing "Network." If you think Animaniacs is just anvils falling on heads (which part of it is) you have to rewatch it I think.

Thats the thing, the two shows are completely different. Animaniacs is a show about shorts (like a children's version of MAD or SNL in a way), whereas Adventure time, has a story line, that yes, goes into random tangents but still follows a linear structure.
about which is better? I can't give you the answer. Animaniacs was my favorite show as a kid, and like Tara said, I still watch it, whereas A.T. is my favorite cartoon now (err one of them).
I feel like animaniacs reffered to popular culture references, and brought in the world of politics. it was almost like an askewed school program, but much better written, and far more entertaining. I felt like I was learning something when I'd watch it. (I picked up this more as I grew older, but it's there)
Adventure time, rather than dealing with politics, and other mass media, it deals with personal issues, again, like Tara said, like parental issues, love, etc.
both shows have a learning curve, one feels more scholarly, the other more personal. I can't compare them in a "which is better" state. but I can say that I like both, for completely different reasons.

Animaniacs' brand of humor actually requires intelligence and talent to craft. And animating an episode presumably took more than 10 minutes.
Making a show like Adventure Time, once you know what to do in terms of humor, is like shooting fish in a barrel. That is, stupid fish. In a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig barrel.

To be brutally honest, I find Adventure Time to be better. It is more vibrant, superb animation, outstanding writing, etc. It is a highly exciting animated TV show. I am highly impressed by Adventure Time.
