I cant enjoy this show nowadays

Back in the 1990s, I loved this show. But looking at it again, I find its not really that enjoyable.

I dont think it bad or lackluster; its definitely got a great sense of humour and is one of the best shows of the 90s, being basically a new set of Looney Tunes updated for a new generation. But I find it, for lack of a better word, cruel. The Warners go around bothering some people for no reason (Scratchansniff lost his hair, and the Nurse got sexually harassed), the Goodfellas spend their time squabbling with each other, and most of all Buttons saves Mindy dozens of times and his owners condemn him for not looking after her properly.

The only skits I can still enjoy from this show are Slappy Squirrel, the Mime, and Pinky and the Brain. In fact Pinky and the Brain was so awesome it got its own show.

An integral part of comedy is making stuff humorous which in real life would be horrible or tragic. And the Looney Tunes didnt draw away in harming each other. But in their respect it was more or less both ways and even-sided, while with the Animaniacs I believe it was, at times, one-sided to the point of cruelty.

Thats how I feel about it anyway.

I'm watching them onDVD now and seig them for the first time since 1997.

I missed a lot of the last ones ,since obviously
WB didn't feel it was worth it to make 'a lot of them' ,like FOX did.

I found I still lvoe the shows (except where the Warners meet
the devil & also meet 'the man in the black hood' (I call him).

These are suposed to be funn yandd they do shows about that? ICK!

Q. - I think the only 'real' case of the Warners getting on someone
without cause is when the Dr. goes on vacation to get away from them ,on a cruise.

They show up out of nowehre (as always) but there seems to be no reasoning for them to mess up his trip like they do. He & a blonde lady flirt with each-other & she really likes him. .... and they totally ruin it by calling him Daddy & asking where's Mommy & then crying.

Totally uncalled for ,he did nothing but want to take arest from work. They mess up the rest of the trip from that point on ,unitl he's covered in bandages & they drive him totally cuckoo.

Go for it or just be a gopher!

I have the entire run on DVD as well. The entire show is on Netflix as of the day I'm writing this (19 April 2016). It is very 90's and one has to be familiar with pop culture of the 1990's and the Warner Brothers cartoons originally showed in theaters to adult audiences before the featured presentation. Those cartoons were later picked up by the three TV networks and repurposed for children starting in the 1950's through the early 1990's, which is how baby boomers and Generation X came to know and love them. Very few children of today's generation would get the full humor of the show. I was in college when the show was in its initial run on Fox and later the WB. The hipsters like myself loved it. I have a 9 year old son who likes the sight gags, but doesn't understand much else in the show, so no it hasn't aged as well as the cartoons on which the show was based.

Yes, I've just discovered this again on Netflix! I saw it sporadically back in the 90's, and I'm loving seeing this cartoon series again! it's sooo zany and crazy, but with sly references and social commentary. love it!
