Season 3 DVD rumor/question

I heard that season 3's DVD was cancelled because of a music rights issue with Luscious Jackson. Does anyone know if that's true?

The cover art was released, there was a release date set, season 1 and 2 sold enough to warrant a season 3 release... Then it all fell apart and seemed to get lost during a change of CEOs.

It's bothered me for years, and there's never been a statement made that I could find.

Just last month the producers said Season 3 was even printed and they all sit in a warehouse. Isn't that crazy? They said they recorded commentaries and had extras.

There needs to be a letter, e-mail, Fadebook campaign to get it released!

Why don't they sell season 3? Grrrrr

Last month, I mailed Fabulous Films in the UK about the last season of P&P, and explained that the 3rd season was ready for release, with printed cover, commentary tracks and selected shorts. They recently did a great job releasing the complete run of 'Malcolm in the Middle', even in never-before-seen widescreen (bar recent Netflix airings), with the soundtrack intact, despite music rights issues in the US. I told them that, as they already have 'Eerie Indiana' and 'Alex Mack' in their catalogue, P&P is kind of the missing link. Though I didn't get a reply, I hope they're still considering it.

That would be interesting, England is a lot more lax about the rights issues... Spaced (the Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright/Nick Frost) show was released on DVD in England like 6 years before the US version just because of rights issues with two songs from Star Wars.

I'd totally buy a region free dvd player to get ahold of season 3, but I doubt Viacom or whomever owns the rights will sell them off since it's been this long.

Apparently so! Perhaps it's worthwhile to take a look at Fabulous Films' catalogue and, like me, mail them with a P&P S3 catalogue suggestion (bottom left-hand corner option on homepage). The more requests, the better!

It may actually be an advantage that Viacom has everything ready for release - it means they can just hand over the media without any further effort, as I believe it's just a matter of low returns on printing and releasing the DVDs - cult status, but no bestseller. This is what happened with Malcolm in the Middle Season 1: apart from the widescreen format for the episodes, Fabulous Films just leased the existing US S1 DVD set-up with bonus features and menu layout from Fox, and put it out that way in Region 2.
