New point about the Haloweenie Episode
I watch it every year near Halloween, and it is a masterpiece. But anyway, does anyone else think it is too bad that a Halloween “gang” like that could not really exist now? Everyone growing up in the 90’s and prior had the opportunity to get into real Halloween michfit when we were too old to go trick or treating, and while very few took it to the extreme that was shown in the show, it was common to at least once egg houses, egg kids at times, shaving cream things and people, throw pumpkins, toss around leaves which someone freshly raked in their yard, toilet paper a house and all that. It was really harmless fun that you did for a year or two after trick or treating and before you could drive and started to go to Halloween parties and stuff. But now almost nobody does that, and nobody for sure would dress or act as the Pumpkin Eaters did. Imagine what would happen if you literally did that now vs. 15 years ago…..
15 years ago I highly doubt you would get arrested, even if you took things to Pumpkin Eater extremes, you would get strongly scolded by the cops, and your parents, maybe be suspended one week from school, maybe get a couple citations resulting in very minor fines, and then it would be over. Now if a few teens with pumpkins on their heads shaving creamed kids and busted pumpkins all over the neighborhood, it would literally be a national news story that night on Fox News and a headline on the Yahoo homepage. You would literally be prosecuted at the federal level, for hate crimes, conspiracy and terrorism. You would probably be charged as an adult. There would be civil suits filed against you by the parents of the kids that you egged. You might be expelled, even if none of this occurred on school grounds. If you did this in a state in the south, a paranoid redneck with a concealed to carry permit would likely blow you away and try to cite an obscure law that since you threw an egg at their child or went on their porch to steal a pumpkin they immediately felt their life was in danger and you could have had a weapon in your pumpkin mask, and felt a duty not to retreat but respond with deadly force to prevent a shaving cream.
So it is too bad that the Pumpkin Eaters are such a thing of the past, kids watching this episode in another 15 years will probably think the whole episode is fictional, as even trick or treating seems to be getting phased out. It is too bad our society is to scared and uptight to have as much fun with things nowadays.
