Hehe... I thought the same thing. Sydney and his wife were devastated at having their home robbed and trashed. If Sydney had explained this extenuating circumstance to Gloria, she might have agreed.
Plus, it's not like she was against playing ball for bucks the whole time. She was all on board early in the movie.
On the other hand, she's borderline intolerable. Who would want her?

It was more about Billy and his being bad with money one too many times.
Gloria would have smpathized with the Deane's but she would have realized that Billy wasn't aware of the Deanes being robbed - he was just being bad with money again.

Get outta here ya half-a-sissy 'for I give ya a slap.
She should've shot Billy.
shareIf billy had said that and also said that it was because of Sidney that she got in the show, I think Gloria would have let it go.
However billy should have never played that game in the first place, clearly Gloria didn't want him to.
Strntz- great sig!
Billy and Sydney should have told Gloria the full truth. In the end Billy helped both of them: Sydney with needed cash after the robbery and Gloria with the connection to get on Jeopardy. He wasn't the brightest bulb but he was loyal to both of them.
I noticed that while Gloria nagged Billy for gambling he never seemed to object to her drinking. The preacher's kid was tolerant about vices and human weaknesses. She was not. That relationship wasn't made to last.
Gloria would have broken up with him anyway-she really was fed up with his gambling- but they would have parted on honest terms. Billy would have run out of patience with her overbearing ways eventually.

Had Billy not made that bet that he could dunk after they won the first tournament and lost all the money, I think Gloria would have understood.
sharePossibly. The way Gloria was talking she expected to win 10 times more money than she already so it wasn’t about the money.
I think she just realized it was never going to end with Billy. She put up with the gambling, because they had no other options, but he didn’t need to do it any more, and he still wanted to.
Other posters on this thread have pointed it out in various ways, but it comes down to this:
Helping Sidney was only an excuse for Billy to keep on gambling
Gloria knew it and so did Sidney, which is why Sidney didn't step in
What's more, Sidney knew it would drive Gloria away, which is why he didn't go to her first.
When I first saw the film, I was pissed at Sidney for putting Billy in that situation, but Sidney put it best at the ending:
"I didn't have to talk to you very long, I presented you with an option and you took it."
Sidney needed the money and he needed Billy's skills. And he knew, given the opportunity, Billy would take it.
