Well, Wesley Snipes obviously was athletic at the time. So why couldn't he? Hell, I'm 5'10 and I dunked on a regular basket before. Did I mention I'm white?

No, most likely he didn't do it for real!
Mind you, the shortest player to win the slam dunk contest (but not necessarily the shortest who dunk it) was Spud Webb, standing 5 ft 6 (1.68 m)
Unlike Wesley Snipes, he was a top NBA player and a basketball sensation famous for his formidable vertical leap. So go figure...

to debiler: yeah, I'm 6 feet tall and I can dunk it too, from the other side of the court :D

I didn't say I did fancy dunks like Spudd Webb. With some training and determination, it's not that hard. There are many people under 6 feet who can dunk, it isn't that special. Still, I'm proud of it. So don't go pissing all over me, fancypants. Mkay?

It was done with CGI. Snipes is barely 5 feet.

Well, you can tell from this thread there aren't a lot of avid basketball fans posting. It's not that uncommon for athletic 5'10 guys to be able to dunk on a 10-foot rim. Wesley had some good ups, and could dunk. Not shocking at all. Now, the Woody dunk at the end, that looked like trick photography.

It is a pretty big deal for a guy 5'10 (if he's lucky) to dunk actually. I think the goal was a little low (9 1/2) cause he got up but didn't get as high as someone his size would need too. Just take a look at Derrick Rose dunk next time you get a chance. He's 6'3 and it looks like he has to fly just to get up there.

I do think the scene where Sidney and Billy bet their shares of the $5k is real though. If you look when Sidney hangs on the rim see if its regulation it looked legit plus it was kind of a reach for him he barely got it.

Anyone with enough athletic ability and a good 'twitch' jumping muscle can dunk. 5'7" or so is about when guys start dunking. Some a little before. I believe there are instances of 6'1" females dunking. It's just a matter of how athletic you are, but it can be done. You don't have to be a giant to dunk.

I remember hearing a long time ago that a lot of the dunks and trick shots were done on a short basket. Maybe 9' instead of 10'. I don't know this to be absolute fact but i remember it from somewhere.

i watched this today and tried to pay attention at those spots in the movie.

i don't believe that was a 10' rim when it came time for snipes to dunk. the camera angle was suspect.

I don’t think so. He dunks pretty easily in that scene, and no point in the rest of the movie is he close. When he jumps up, he’s pretty far below the rim.

Also I think people are overestimating his athletic ability. He looks like he was in good shape for this movie, but he doesn’t seem to have an athletic background. He had to be trained in basketball just to do this movie.
