Wayne spoke Cantonese EARLIER IN THE FILM! What is Wayne a loser cause he's not as fluent as Ben? That he's only just started? He was insanely good for a beginner! It doesn't make any sense within the context of the scene where clearly the point is that Ben is showing off how rich he is, connected, educated etc. I'm sure Wayne could order take out in Cantonese if he wanted to!
I saw the movie yesterday and while I really liked it,that joke really wasn't that on point for the reason you described.Wayne was already impressive when he carried on a whole conversation with Cassandra for the first time,so Ben doing the same while ordering wasn't anything special,no matter the headstart.
Benjamin was rich and better looking than Wayne, but Wayne had impressed Cassandra by learning Cantonese for her, which was both romantic and shows Wayne to have a brain.
Then Benjamin orders in Cantonese, which he did without just reading items listed, but seemed to be actually conversing in Cantonese, which made it seem like he knew about as much Cantonese as Wayne, which cancels out that one possible advantage Wayne had.
I don't think it was just the Cantonese that one-upped Wayne, but the fact that he guessed where Cassandra was born by her accent.
My topic is "why is Ben SPEAKING CANTONESE one upping Wayne?" Not "Why is ben speaking Cantonese but also knowing where she was from by her accent one upping Wayne"

People can segue slightly off topic, calm down... It's because Wayne learned Cantonese for Cassandra's benefit and as a way to impress her. She was clearly impressed with a lot of the things Ben did and it seemingly kind of cancelled out how happy she was that Wayne learned it.
Well it was just one more thing Ben can do. It also seemed he was more fluent and learned it by actually going to the country. I don't think Casandra was swoon over it just impressed but it played on Waynes insecurity.
At no point in the movie was Casandra romantically interested in Wayne but Wayne saw Ben as a threat. Wayne pushed her away with his own insecurities.
"At no point in the movie was Casandra romantically interested in Wayne"
Cassandra. Not 'Casandra'.
And what are you smoking? Cassandra was clearly attracted to both men in this movie, and to suggest she was not interested in Wayne romantically..?? Did you even watch the movie?
