what is the problem with the father ?? spoiler

when he found his home , his mother was crying and not believing that she is seeing her son, but the father was so cold !!! not only that, after he saved his parents, he went to ask them if they are ok and the father was a big jerk when he said in a cold blood: don't worry about us !!!!!!!!

i have always wondered this since i saw the movie the first time in 1992

Just a bad actor I guess.

On the Special Edition DVD, there's an alternate ending in which it's revealed that his "parents" aren't really his parents after all. Apparently that was the original plan. Maybe the actor's performance is a remnant of that plan.

Well. Personally for me it was because the father knew his son was dead. Then he turns up having been made into a cyber-futuristic killing machine. How would you treat them? If they were alive it would be hard to let go of all the grief and be happy to see them. As it was it would be like loosing your son only to get a call 2 years later that he hadn't died. But that he was now dead.

Yes, it kinda bothered me too. But then I remembered that it's an action flick.

Yeah, I was surprised to see the alternate ending as well. In that version, Scott kills Luc's mom, then they fight, and Luc kills Scott. Then Luc's dad shows up, whips out a gun and shoots Luc. Jerry Orbach shows up and says "they weren't your real parents, they were working for me all along, it was a trap I set for you." Then the police show up and cart Orbach and fake dad off to jail. Then they reveal that Luc goes off with Veronica, lives a happy couple of months, and dies of complications from the experiment. Kind of a downer ending. They changed it so the parents live and are actually his real parents now, and added the scene where they're cowering in the barn during the fight. I guess Dad's emotionless performance that remains in the film shows that he was originally intended to be the final villain.

Thank god they didn't with the alternate ending. Just felt off. Didn't fit with the rest of the film imo.
