Tedious but technical plot hole
How does JCVD have enough money to purchase the bus ticket (in that touching scene after the supermarjet fiasco) for the reporter, and yet not enough money for his bill at the diner?

Either that, or he really does have a wad of cash and just doesn't understand what the waitress is asking. He's still pretty dopey at that point in the movie.
Or maybe Veronica's the one with the money.

i always felt that waitress was a bit of a *itch. i mean she just threw the specials on the table with such an attitude. then she's accusing luc that he doesn't have money to pay. hell she never asked veronica if she has cash. most likely by the way it looks, she was the one that was gonna pay for the meal.
i'm sure he had some cash on him since he did steal joe's clothes along with most likely his wallet. i totally agree, luc most likely didnt understand what the women was asking because he was still acting kinda odd. i mean he just learned how mashed potatoes taste good. i doubt he knew what cash was.
later on in the film when he bought the bus ticket, he seemed to be smarter, and be regaining his old self again. he didnt need to be as depend on veronica as much. he was able to make choices for himself, and understand the meaning of money.
I agree. The waitress was an @$$hole and it would have been hella funny if Luc woulda kicked everybody's @$$ then pulled out a wad of cash and set it on the table and left.
