Good movie but the end fight scene was bullsh!t! Luc (Van Damme) is shorter than Andrew (Dolph) so there is NO WAY IN HELL that he could beat him in a fight! Andrew is taller and thus PHYSICALLY SUPERIOR. A short man is a product of "bad breeding" and thus unable to win a fight against his taller counterpart! I know it's only a movie but still...

I like your argument. (I'm 6"4', but that has nothing to do with it, of course.)
Just got word from Amazon that my copy of the direct-to-DVD Universal Soldier: Regeneration has shipped, so we'll see whether they've been foolish enough to repeat this glaring error.

You're over simplifying things. Strength isn't the only factor in a fight. Speed, endurance, and skill are just a few of many which go into the equation. Andrew may have possessed an advantage in strength, but Luc had a pronounced advantage in speed and skill. Additionally, he'd just been rejuvenated by that drug. It likely gave him a momentary boost of strength as well. You can compare his punches which Andrew laughed off at the beginning to those which left him staggering at the end.
In real life, a fight between Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren would not have been anything like what we saw on film. The climactic battle between two resurrected super soldiers hopped up on miracle cure medication is a work of pure science fiction fantasy. However, I would not say that victory would have been an impossibility for Van Damme in a real fight.
Seriously though, if you think that strength is all that counts, try watching boxing. Try watching mixed martial arts. The stronger man may be the safer bet, but a strength advantage does not guarantee winning.
Thanks for the replies, guys. Yeah, I guess speed and skill and all that come into it. Andrew indeed have more strength and a longer reach, etc, but I guess Luc, being smaller was a lot more quicker and supple, so to speak. He also has a lower center of gravity and could perhaps hit Andrew in more vulnerable spots (work his stomach, chest, etc) to get him down.
Speaking of speed and skill, I just remembered that my Dad, who is 5'11" and lean used to box and "play fight" with a friend of his who was 6'4" and much bigger than Dolph. However, my Dad used to beat him every time. The guy used to fall like a sack of potatoes, my Dad said.
Still, I'm only 5'9" myself (wish I was TALLER) and have won a few fights but I don't think I'd win a fight against a 6'4" guy, like Spiff.

tall men are strong (sometimes, unless they are just a walking skeleton) but they also are slow and clumsy. it doesn't take much to topple them over if they have no clue on how to fight. once your on the ground, size doesn't matter. so it's possible for short guys to come out on top. besides since short men are looked down upon as weak, so it makes them even more vicious because we have to make up that lack of size with aggression, and technique.
even in the movie fight you could tell a difference in aggression. dolph was hitting van damme with a blow here, and a blow there, but no combo's at all. as for van damme, every chance he got he was swinging for the fences, and popping off as many blows as he can to make up for his lack of strenght. once they fight was even due to the drugs van damme kept up the his aggression and that's why he won.
Of course the physical size is the only thing that matters. That's why everyone taller than him was able to push around Bruce Lee every time they wanted to. Easy.
You know I'm laughing at this thread, right? I'm a girl, and I have taken down men much bigger than I am. Speed, agility, lower center of gravity, opponent's arrogance, and accurately placed hits to specific parts of the body have been advantageous for me.
Sci-Fi is for those who understand the space outside the box is less crowded.
You sound like one of my friends. He's 6'5" and he thinks he can beat anyone's ass because of it, mine included. The truth is, he's a skinny bastard and doesn't get nearly enough excercise. I hope it never comes to it, but I could take him.

Is this some lame attempt at humor?. I take it you never saw a young Mike Tyson fight in his prime. He was a 5'10.5" unbeatable pitbull, regulary knocking 6'2" - 6'4" heavy weight contenders on their asses before the fight was 2 rounds old. Not only that, but most of the bigger guys were genuinely afraid of the young Tyson when they climbed in the ring for the opening round stare down.
Yes if all things are equal, the bigger and stronger guy will usually win, but things are seldom equal, AND height does NOT always equal more strength. Combine lower center of gravity, faster reflexes / speed, and bigger heart, and David can definitely slay Goliath.
Having said that, there are limits, even if a 5'6" 140lb guy had a HUGE skill advantage over a 6'6" 240lb guy, it would be very difficult (if not impossible) for the smaller guy to win. Unless that smaller guy is Bruce Lee and the bigger guy is an average 6'6" slug.
The most lopp sided real world fight I ever saw was between a 5'4" guy and 5'11" guy, where the smaller guy absolutely destroyed the taller guy. To this day I have never seen a guy get hit so many times (flush in the face AND hard), in the space of 2-3 seconds.
