Cut for the R rating?

I was really surprised by how violent this was considering the time period. A few scenes, especially the needle kill, looked like they might have been trimmed for the MPAA. Anyone have any info?

back in those days this was near pg 13. in todays time this is a very hard R rating. todays times suck. we need to bring back the R rating. there should be no room for pg 13 horror or action films.

That's what i think too. I don't know is it the editing or whatever, but some violent scenes really seemed like they were trimmed.

I remember reading old newspaper article somewhere on web mentioning MPPA cuts made on one of the UNIVERSAL SOLDIER films, but i don't know which one.

I know just what you mean. When Luc butchered Andrew on that farming machine (forget what it's called) it looked really butchered up.
Friggin' MPAA. I hate those guys.

I watched this on television last night. I have a dvd copy of this movie, with an M or MA rating (equivalent of an PG13 or R in the United States). I will have to rewatch the movie on dvd to see what was abridged for television audiences.

I don't know what you mean by "considering the time period". During the 1980s, they were quite explicit with the gore. These days, you have to contend with the cgi blood and gore distracting audiences away from the old fashioned (ie 1970s and 1980s) horror.
