Question about the tech guy with the grenade

Ok this is probably a silly/pointless/stupid question...I've watched this movie maybe a dozen times, but haven't seen it in years, but one thing I always wondered. At the part where the tech/doctor says that Scott has issued an order, to hold the grenade for 30 seconds then drop it, did the doc want to blow himself up with the remaining unisols, or did he want to make a run for it after handing over the grenade? I always assumed that he thought he was going to die anyway so wanted to try and take unisols out before he did, but when he puts the grenade in the unisols hand (Gr-24 or whatever) he looks like he's struggling or the unisol is holding on to him, with kind of a panicked expression like he wanted to run away. But it was probably an expression of 'oh *beep* I'm about to explode'.

It's been forever since i saw it so what do you guys think?

He didn't want to commit suicide. His plan was to give the unisol the grenade and then escape, but the unisol holds him all together with the grenade. And that's the reason of his panicked expression.

Yeah, just watched it again, the UniSol catches the doc's thumb between his hand and the grenade, and with his enhanced strength, the not-all-together-powerful doc couldn't yank free in time. It's just as well, Sgt. Scott would have caught him and killed him anyway...

i laughed so hard at this scene. the poor bastard trying to free his hand, his expression hahahaha truly an epic fail

How do you like your brandy, sir?
In a glass.

I always disliked this scene. I found him getting caught in the soldier's grip to be pointless and mean-spirited.

I've just seen that scene.
Couldn't the doctor easily survive this ordeal by simply holding down the safety pin on the grenade until after his hand is released?

And even if the pin is somehow removed after the unisol releases his hand, wouldn't there be a three or so seconds delay so that the doctor would have time to duck for cover?

It's not a big movie mistake, but I found this death to be a tad silly and immensely avoidable.

he could have just said sgt scott has issued another command to open his hand then do a runner?
