It's high up the list in both Van Damme's and Lundgren's career for me. Very entertaining stuff.
Action films from this period had crunching fights and were quite violent like they should be. Few action films of this ilk with that 80s flavour matched it afterwards, with for me Hard Target being the end of that era of great action violent action films. Nearly everything after went from bad to worse.
The first sequel was a major disappointment but the the third and fourth showed improvement despite their low budgets and the ridiculous resurrection of Lundgren's character.
